Recently we’ve heard of an VPS cloud server for virtual hosting called Digital-Ocean. With free account, 5$ for a month, 20GB SSD with 512mb Memory we’ve had to try!

Digital Ocean

First of all, we are not related to digital ocean in any way, except for our hosting plan that we purchased from digital ocean. we are so happy with their service that we decided to write this article.

Support

Their support is quick and very efficient. You don’t know how much it is important until you have an issue and we had a few with our previous hosting plans.

Speed

Digital Ocean has a server farm in New York and Amsterdam. You can choose where to host your server according to your needs. Our hosting is in New York and we got a very good speed both for uploading and downloading even from Europe.

Reliability

We had a couple of network issues since we’re here, Digital Ocean is no more reliable or less then others. The difference is with support who take responsibility and you know what happens. Both issues were solved with incredible speed and our combined down time was 20 minutes during that time we had contacted their support and we have received an answer withing 2 minutes..

GUI

Digital-Ocean has a great web-site. custom made, you don’t use any poorly implemented 3rd party hosting management solution. everything is simple and just works. More options would be great! like more control over DNS settings (we had problems settings @ to CNAME) and MX server would be great also!

Worth to mention, with VPS you can SHH to your server, so who needs a GUI anyway ;)

Price

It’s VPS, not hosting, and the price is not only fair but cheep!.

Conclusion

We give 4 stars to Digital-Ocean VPS service, which is way better then the 3 other hosting providers we used over the years. We are so happy with our little private server. the way we can handle everything, and setup our server for our needs. we love our static private IP, we love having SHH to the server, we love the service and of course we love the price!.

If you know how to install and configure your own VPS, and you are using a hosting you’re not satisfied with, go for it! Digital-Ocean will change your life.
